The Monday Motivation Linky #12 – RAKs – an update

Kel Latest, Monday Motivation Linky 8 Comments

If you read my post last week, you’ll have seen that it was World Kindness Day. I like to think I’m generally a kind person, but this week I’ve made an extra effort to do more Random Acts of Kindness (RAKs),  just because I like to make others happy. I don’t want anything in return; just knowing I’ve made someone smile, or feel better, or feel helped is plenty enough for me.

So, last Monday I went off to the shops and picked up a bunch of flowers with my shopping. I then lurked around the entrance to the shop and waited for someone to come out. I must have looked a bit odd, hanging around! I’d already decided I was going to look out for an elderly person to give my flowers, so when I spotted my lady, I made my move. She was utterly bemused! She asked what they were for and I told her it was World Kindness Day and I just wanted to make someone smile. She was concerned that she didn’t know about it and hadn’t done a kind thing herself, bless her! But, she was very chuffed with the flowers; she told me she had stopped buying flowers of her own so she could save more for Christmas. She also told me to “tell them I’m 91 years old!”

Later that day I went to another supermarket and bought some scratch cards. I then surreptitiously hid them around the store, mainly inside books. Although not a specific act of kindness, I like to think that whoever picked up or bought the books would have a lovely surprise, and who knows, maybe they’re even a winner! (I went back the next day to check and at least a couple of the cards had gone!).

I also bought a few extra tins of food to pop in the food bank collection box, which is something I intend to do much more often.

So, those were some of the RAKs I carried out this week. How about you? Do you do RAKs? Or have you been on the receiving end?

Lovely to be kind and I always love when we act at our best we get that wonderful feel good factor too. Love giving to foodbanks and just hoping it eases a family’s stress a little

I think it is more rewarding to be able to do this than to be on the receiving end. This fits perfectly with my own post this week – an act of kindness from one of my daughter’s friends! #themmlinky
