Welcome to my new series, ‘The Weekly Wednesday Photo’! Each week I’ll share (at least) one photo and the story that goes with it. Make sure to check back each week!

This week’s photo is of my first ever ‘Hello Fresh’ box!

Hello Fresh ingredients box

I’ve never tried a meal delivery service before (other than the local takeaway, but I don’t think that’s quite the same!) but my mum has raved about ‘Hello Fresh’ in the past. When I saw an introductory offer that was too good to turn down, I knew I had to give it a go.

I was excited to receive my box of chosen recipes – Mexican tostadas, pan-fried sea bream and tomato risotto with Tuscan sausage. A couple of days before, a little ‘welcome’ gift arrived to whet my appetite!

When the box arrived, I took a couple of photos (well, I am a blogger, after all!) and then ripped into it like a kid at Christmas. How middle-aged I felt! It was full of goodies, all neatly packaged in eco-friendly brown bags (ooh, even more middle-aged now!).

Each bag contains all the ingredients needed to make one meal for two people, right down to the teeny cheese or single clove of garlic! The meat and fish are kept nicely chilled inside a bag containing ice packs and eco insulation wool.

The recipe cards are A4 size and contain mouthwatering pictures of what your finished meal should look like (let’s compare and contrast once I’ve cooked them, shall we?!) as well as photos of the ingredients and clear, step-by-step photo instructions on how to cook the meals.

The first meal I tried was the pan-fried sea bream. I can honestly say it was so easy to follow the step-by-step instructions and the photos are really useful to make sure your own looks the same! It was great to have good quality ingredients all to hand and it tasted absolutely delicious! It’s not the sort of meal The Hubby would normally go for (which is partly why I chose it!) but even he was “oooh-ing and aahhh-ing”. I felt like a proper grown up eating ‘posh food’ – it made such a lovely change from our usual meals of spag bol, chilli con carne, fish and oven chips, fajitas… We even got out our ‘best’ plates!

Tonight we have Mexican tostadas – can’t wait!

Looks good enough to eat, eh?
